Hangzhou’s Vanke Sky City Exhibition Center is a futuristic prototype house that integrates facade and landscape lighting with a dynamic art installation. An immersive approach sequence leads the visitor through watery corridors toward a luminous floating cube, where an interactive projection streams down to greet you. Through technical rigor controlling a complex projection lamp array, the juxtapositions between sensorial and digital, imaginary and real, are investigated playfully using architecture as canvas. Vanke Sky City harnesses new media along with more traditional applications of light to evoke the peace and mystery of the natural world while delighting in futurism. It is a daring combination of conventional lighting and new media, executed with technical rigour and tasteful restraint, to harness this magic and offer a new experiential world to the viewer, rewriting their expectations of light.
