Wandering Walls will perhaps depart from most world-class lighting projects, in that it does not aim to reach the pinnacle of luxury. Compared to the sheer magnificence of high-end hotels, which seek to remove visitors from their environment and envelop them in fantasy, this special place seeks to be a gentle guide, leading each person subtly, through light and form, toward closer communion with nature. As a lighting design project, this was a deeply creative exercise in material exploration, harmony with site, and budget constraint. The lighting technique for this project was an artful exercise in harmonizing between the practical illumination needs of modern architecture and the compelling draw of uninterrupted nature, to arrive at the shifting, moonlit glow of its wave-tossed walls. The reigning lighting concept is the achievement of balance between comfortable hospitality and a minimal environmental footprint.
